According to the history of the Arabic music, a very little Arabic music’s alone are documented. Even many attempts have been made in which some Arabic music didn’t make much success and also none of them is distinctive.

The following are some of the main milestones of free Arabic music and they are:

  1. In Egypt, during 19th century, western notation to Arabic music was introduced by the napoleon’s invasion. This was fully based on the oral tradition.
  2. In the same Egypt, during 20th century, there was a development in the Arabic music in the classical Egyptian Tarab. This is the formation of the classical ensemble and also with voice domination. This also leads to some of the famous Arab musicians cum singers such as Muhammad wahab and Oum Kalthoum etc.
  3. In Lebanon, during the 20th century, there was a rise to fame of a Lebanese working group which comprised of the Fayrouz and Rahbani brothers. This group rose in the Beirut’s cultural room which includes the poets and musicians working together to come forward with the new type of music which actively sought the Egyptian Tarab. The musical shows as well as the concerts and recitals are operated in the music manifested itself.

Considering to the musicians point of view, the Rahbanis were the most popular musicians in the Levant countries in this century. Some of the music directors also give their best part which proves its separate genres of the Arabic music.

During the year 1950’s and in 1960’s, this Arabic music has started to take on a western tone style with famous artists such as Abdel Halim Hafez who are paving the way. Later during the year 1970’s, many other singers also followed the same suit. After the arrival of Arabic pop, the music composed in the Arabic pop format created an extremely popular in the Arab world as well as in some parts of the Europe which also includes the places with huge expat communities such as France.

Then later on during the year 1990’s and 2000’s, even some more artists also have taken up with some varieties of styles. Some of the varieties of styles includes: Sabah, Tamer Hosny, Najwa Karam, Diana Haddad, Thekra, Nawal Al Zoghbi, Kuwaiti, Nawal El, Warda Al Jazairia, Magida EI Roumi, Asalah Nasri, Amr Diab, Hiaham Abbas, Wael Kfoury, Elissa, Haifa Wehbe, Angham, Nancy Ajram, Maria Tekdep, aldo (musician) and Samira Said etc.

During the 20th century, Egypt was the first in the series of Arabian countries to experience the sudden emergence of nationalism. Moreover, it also became an independent after 2000 years of the foreign rule. Umm Kulthum and Fairuz are the two music legends who are named as the “Arabic music legends”. Even these both musicians have been extremely popular through the decades that followed.

During recent times, this Arabic music has added its new style of music which is called as Arabic Hip Hop music. Hip Hop music is used and also composed all over the world. Since they are very famous across the world, Arabic countries also started their Arabic hip hop music and culture that originates the Arabic speaking world.

Generally Arabic music is highly popular almost all the major part of the world. Some of the special places where this Arabic music is popular are in the northern part of Africa, Middle East and the Gulf etc. Even they are played in radio stations and also in TV shows. From the year 1990’s, live performances have started where it got a warm welcome from all parts of the world.
